The Giant Bolster is a well-known face in National Hunt racing, twice placed in the Cheltenham Gold Cup and a longtime fixture at Prestbury Park. Now retired, he spends his days at David Bridgewater's yard - where this portrait was sculpted.

This portrait was built from life over four or five sessions at his yard, working two ways: watching him out in the field, where his weight and the set of his neck came out naturally as he grazed and moved, then working close up over the stable door, where I could get right into the detail
