The bighorn sheep is one of the great symbols of the North American mountains - a thickset, powerfully built animal, best known for the massive curled horns carried by the rams, which can weigh more than the rest of the skeleton combined. Sure-footed on near-vertical rock, bighorns spend their lives moving across cliffs and scree slopes that few other large mammals could manage, using that terrain as both home and defence against predators.

This sculpture captures a Bighorn standing proudly on rocky outcrop, head raised in the alert, faintly territorial posture so characteristic of the species.

The piece was modelled to bring out the density of the animal: the heavy shoulders, the weight of the horns, the coarse coat. It was cast in bronze in the UK using the traditional lost-wax process. Each cast in this edition of 12 is individually numbered and signed by hand, and comes with a certificate of authenticity.
