The barn owl is one of the most distinctive birds of the British countryside - pale, heart-faced, and almost silent in flight, thanks to the soft, serrated edge of its feathers. It hunts low over farmland and rough grassland at dusk, dropping onto prey from fence posts and gateways, or gliding in to land with barely a sound.

This sculpture captures that exact moment of arrival: wings still spread wide, talons reaching for the post, the bird's full weight not yet settled. It's a deliberately difficult pose to hold in bronze - most of the sculpture's mass is carried out and above just two narrow points of contact, relying on bronze's high tensile strength to support the wings and body without any hidden bracing. The result is a piece that looks like it's genuinely still in motion, caught a fraction of a second before landing.

The surface is finished in a verdigris patina, echoing the natural blue-green tones that develop on aged bronze and giving the owl's plumage a soft, weathered quality. The piece was cast in bronze in the UK using the traditional lost-wax process. Each cast in this edition of 12 is individually numbered and signed by hand, and comes with a certificate of authenticity.
