The Cape buffalo has a reputation among people who work around it as one of the most dangerous animals in Africa, and a great deal of that comes down to the head. The horns of an old bull meet in a heavy central boss across the brow, a solid mass of horn that reads almost like a helmet, and beneath it the animal watches you with a level, unhurried stare that gives nothing away. I sculpted this after time spent with them in Kenya, where what stays with you is not aggression so much as a kind of settled confidence - a heavy animal entirely certain of its own strength and in no hurry to prove it.

It is cast in bronze by the lost-wax process and finished by hand with a deep patina worked into the surface, gathered into the folds of the hide and the rough of the horn so the form holds the light as you move around it. A limited edition of twelve, each cast signed by the artist and supplied with a certificate of authenticity.
